I'm new in the neighborhood and I like having a relationship with an honest and reliable mechanic so I went around different places talking to the shops nearby and asked for rates on a project that I needed for my truck. I came here to get a quote to install strut spacers for my truck and talked with the people here. They were nice and courteous but the next day they gave me a whopping quote of $758. The job would've mostly taken about 1.5-2hrs max to install the spacers on top of the front struts (removal of front struts, bolt on spacers and reinstall) and a front only alignment plus mandatory check up afterwards. This quote was ridiculously higher than most of the other places where it ranged from $260 to $350 tops, alignment included and all with good reviews on Yelp. So I went to a different place with great ratings where it cost me $300, including tip and they did an impeccable job. So charging much more than double of what others did, I don't know what their business model is or maybe they took me for a fool. So people be sure to do your research, homework and shop around for different prices with your mechanic. Hope this helps.

Poor attention to detail. Parts left in car after repair, not on time, broken parts done to my cars, work not done properly. Tim and his crew at Loyola Marina auto are not quality mechanics. I had been a customer of theirs for nearly 5 years and I will never return. A recent repair was needed on my wife’s car which required a new battery oil change and smog. The cover on the battery was damaged during their repair. I brought it to the attention of Tim and he said these things happened and it’s something that I shouldn’t worry about. He neither offered to replace the damaged cover nor offered any other type of compensation. This is a true statement of his workmanship and I can’t recommend them as reputable place of business. Hey Woody, It's disheartening seeing you leave a review like this. We pay extra attention when your vehicle comes in as we know you pay very close attention to detail. Your car was completed on time, there were no parts left in the vehicle, and the work it was brought in for was done properly. In the past we have even researched a repair and found it to be within warranty and allowed to take advantage of it instead of just charging you for the repair. Going back to your battery issue, I do find it interesting you forgot to mention when this all started, you had to jump start the car and admitted you had to remove the battery cover but was unable to reinstall the battery cover. I can see how it would be easier to blame us. When we attempted to go over your complaint to see what can be done, you stormed off it seems when you felt you were not getting your way. We can't please everyone, but we do try, and our other customers definitely seem to feel that way. I wish you luck in finding another automotive shop that can better suit your needs.

My Jaguar XK had a sensor problem that stopped it from passing smog tests. I was told by another mechanic and the dealer that nothing could be done, I just needed to drive the car and it will eventually register. Didn't happen and I had to stop using the car because I could not get a sticker from the DMV. I brought my car to Paul and Tim since they were local and did smog repairs. They understood the problem and had trouble, but they never gave up and my car is now once more registered. Thanks!

The first time I took my car to Loyola Marina was to replace a busted tire which these guys dragged out for almost four days! (Albeit 2 of those days were the weekend). So, I took my car in Friday morning (around 1030) believing that it would be done by COB. At 5 o'clock I was told that they wouldn't be able to put the new tire on my car because the tire that they were waiting for had not arrived and yada yada yada. Which meant I had to go all weekend without a car which sucked. They had it done midday on Monday. Underwhelming service to say the least! Despite being terribly unimpressed the first time, I took my car back when my air conditioning went out after I was in an accident.) My auto body repair guy (a personal friend of Loyola Marina management) called to tell them I was coming and he told them I was a "very special customer" and to "take care of me." I took my car in and explained that my air conditioning had worked fine up until I had an accident (I rear ended someone) and got my car body damages repaired but my air conditioner was not fixed. I needed the mechanic to check the damage to the air conditioning and explain to the insurance company that it had been damaged in the accident and needed to be fixed under that same claim. I had to drop my car off Friday morning (915 AM) and then, around 5 o'clock I called over to find out when my car would be ready for me and the mechanic said "it's ready now but I'm leaving like, right this minute. You have to pay me $180 now if you want to be able to get your car today. Otherwise, you will have to get it Monday." "180?! Right now over the phone?" I said, "Did you fix my air conditioning?" "No." "Then what am I paying $180 to you for, exactly?" I asked, bewildered. "For what we did, identify what's wrong with your air-conditioning." "To look at my air conditioning and write down in a statement that it's not working for me to give my insurance company. I'm paying you $180 for you to tell progressive what I told you when I dropped off my car." "Yes." He said. I had no choice, to get my car back I paid his extortion money and picked up my car. I then read the note that was for my insurance company. It said the damage to the air-conditioning system was "a small hole which probably was caused by a rock bouncing up from the street" which meant it was not caused by the accident! I was completely stunned. I called my body shop manager (Shant from Marina West auto body which is the best auto-body place in the whole world hands-down, bar none; check my yelp review) who had suggested I take my car to this mechanic and told him what they'd done; I was livid! Shant, being a consummate professional and totally excellence-focused, service-oriented human being spoke to those d-bags at Loyola marina and got them to revise their statement so it said that there was a small hole that caused the malfunction and didn't pretend to know how the hole got there, i.e. rock, accident or tiny engine-dwelling unicorn (credit: Dane Cook pls.) I decided that I needed to dispute the $180 charge with my bank. A few days later I got a call from Tim, the owner regarding my dispute. He asked me if I had filed a dispute, I said "I absolutely did file a dispute." He became snarky and aggressive, "Well, too bad for you! You'll be paying us that money regardless; you signed the agreement." "Not if my bank agrees with me that the work that was done was inferior and not worth what you charged me." I hung up and got out of my car. I went body surfing with my friend for around 30-40 minutes. While I was driving home from the beach I noticed multiple text messages pop up from unfamiliar numbers. I also got a call from a man asking about the free televisions and other electronics listed on Craigslist. I apologized and said I didn't have any free televisions listed online. He told me to check Craigslist because there was a new listing for free televisions and electronics with my phone number (and no other information) posted by a guy named Mitch. I went on and found the ad and tried contacting Mitch to tell him he'd mistakenly put my number in the ad...but there was no other info. No email, no IG handle nothing. I reported the ad to Craigslist and waited for almost three hours (getting dozens of texts and calls in the meanwhile) until they took the ad down. I then checked to see if "Mitch" reposted the ad with his correct phone number...but there were no other ads for free electronic Why? Because Mitch is actually Tim from Loyola Marina Auto Body. Of course, I can't prove it was him, but I know it, Tim knows it and now, the fine American people who read Yelp reviews know it. Bottom line: Don't take your car to Loyola Marina Auto Care!

Not much to say which for a mechanic is a good thing. They changed the oil of ‘91 Miata (a lot of places won’t work on cars that old) and did an inspection. Fast, honest, and affordable. Services: Oil change, General repairs & maintenance

We noticed it seems you went out of your way to post multiple negative reviews, this one with your first and last name, the other with your last and first name, we are replying to both. Hey Linze, Just wanted to add some clarity to the situation. Your service was back in early July, so just a couple weeks shy of 6 months, and you stated you are just now were getting a message indicating your vehicle was low on oil. You are accusing us of not adding enough oil, which if that were the case, the message would of been present the same day of the service or the next day. On your invoice, we noted that there were at least two oil leaks present on the vehicle which were not addressed while the vehicle was in. This will definitely lead to a low oil message months down the line. We as well noted several other maintenance items being neglected, for example your vehicle coming in with no coolant. With leaks present on a vehicle, it won't matter who tops off or fills the vehicle fluids, they will leak out again. Regarding the oil, we only use full synthetic oils here for all of our oil services. For yours in particular though, we use Liqui Moly which is the best oil money can buy for Europeans cars. If you know of a better one, please let us know. You were making a lot of accusations, with no evidence, just demanding a full refund. We offered to have you bring the vehicle back in to be reinspected at no charge, but you declined stating you are already had it serviced elsewhere further limiting us being able to help you. Cheap oil and wasn’t given enough. Had to get it doen at another shop 4 months later. Waste of money and time and no make good was offered. Service: Oil change

I was concerned about many shops in the surrounding area because the reviews were “good”not great. I looked at Loyola’s and saw people appreciated the honesty here. I as well can say that I too appreciate their honesty and warm approach in helping me. Thank you for your expertise and I know who I can trust with my vehicles. I am in the military so prices around the area scared me a bit. I was relieved to get fair pricing. It was amazing. Thank you guys!
